The four stamps to the right celebrate the departure for Lindisfarne in 793. The stamps to the left display Viking Christmas ornaments, which were hung on the conifer trees so plentiful in Scandinavia.
The notes besides the address are my grandfather's. He would jot down when he received a letter and when he wrote back. He saved everything, and now I have it.
A postcard from my mother to my dad, before they were married. I love the big glass flask filled with red material positioned prominently in the front of the shot. In the illustration, Mom is holding a flask containing another type of liquid.
An email from my cousin Veronica: "The pictures from Japan are amazing. In the first their shoes are in front of them and I recognized them as the pair I got from Bengt and have on display in my living room cabinet with glass doors. They are really small - always wondered where they came from. The women in the pictures are Dita, Kahte and Hildegard. Auguste is not in the picture according to my mother." Top: Mom's drawing of herself jumping off a three-meter platform in Sweden. Bottom: Her grandson George doing same outside Stockholm with my friend Martin and his son Gustav. Guess it's something Swedes like to do.
Isabella tells me this cartoon is based on a pie she baked. Order her book "Pacifists in Bomber Jackets" by dropping Isy a message at the Isabella Bannerman Cartoons Facebook Page.
