Adam Buckman's Irresistible Take on TV

My friend Adam Buckman is a superb TV journalist. For many years he worked as a TV reporter and editor at the NY Post. Now he's writing an unsparing (to himself and the people he covered), behind-the-scenes memoir of his career so far—including run-ins with Howard Stern, Oprah, Sally Jessy, Robin Leach and a legion of other greats and less-than-greats. It's called "Jerk: My Life as a Columnist on the TV Beat." Check it out, it's gossipy and terrifically entertaining.

Buffalo DPW Garage Once Housed Pro Hockey and Box Lacrosse

Great article by Jeff Klein in the Times about what was once Buffalo's Broadway Auditorium. It now houses plows and salt for Buffalo's awesome snow removal force. The structure was built in 1858 as an armory. According to the article and bisonhistory.com, the Bisons of the International Hockey League played there from 1930-1931. It also saw the start of box lacrosse in the 1930s, and Six Nations star Harry Smith, who later bcame the Lone Ranger actor Jay Silverheels, played at the Auditorium. Nik Wallenda to Cross Niagara Falls on Tightrope

The Times reports Wednesday that a Wallenda will cross the Falls on a tightrope. Canadian authorities were initially opposed because they felt it would "detract from the natural majesty of the waterworks," as reporter Thomas Kaplan puts it. Why then, how about restoring the 50% of the water that's diverted from the Falls for power generation? Imagine twice as much water thundering over the precipice. To make up the deficit, take 100% of the water at night, instead of the 75% that's taken now. Or have special days or weeks where you divert it all, then return to its natural state. The Falls is still a draw without water, as you can see in the film by Harry Gent below.
