Fast French Line Steamers Luggage Sticker

Another S.S. Paris luggage sticker, courtesy of Peter Wettlaufer. It belonged to his godparents, Ashford and Priscilla Murch of Buffalo. I love the handwriting, and the hyphen between New-York. "Couchette 457," I'm guessing this was their cabin number.

A beautifully designed luggage sticker from the collection of Peter Wettlaufer of Buffalo. It belonged to his godparents, Priscilla and Ashford Murch, also of Buffalo. Many ships have been called the S.S. Paris. I am guessing it was this one.

An ID photo from my great-grandmother's trip to France to visit her son's grave at the Somme American Cemetery. Sara, and the other mothers and widows of fallen WWI soldiers, were treated as heroes by the French. You can listen to my account of her trip below, based on her son's military burial file.

Lieut. Michael Duddy from Plains, PA

Sent to me by Matt Conrad. Matt writes that he re-added the color to the photo, and made it accurate to what it would have actually been. Matt also writes that the hat was called a "Garrison Cap." You can read more about WW1 uniforms here. Like my great uncle John Curry, Michael Duddy was from Plains, PA. And like my great uncle, he was killed in action by a sniper. Their portraits hang side by side at the American Legion Hall there, thanks to the awesome efforts of Bob and Bobby Corcoran.
