My wife and fellow Buffalonian Isabella spotted this crate at the Hastings-on-Hudson Farmer's Market last week. MX Morningstar Farm was using it to display their beautiful produce. I'd never heard of Buffalo Bolt but, like Buffalo Forge, they were an industrial juggernaut. In 1920, they made "600,000,000 pieces Bolts, Nuts, Screws, etc., 5,000 varieties and sizes of Finished Product, 50,000 tons Steel Rolled." I know this because I have visited the North Tonawanda History Museum website, which has posted a pamphlet from that year called: A Graphic History of the Buffalo Bolt Plant. It's just great stuff and I'll be posting more about it this week. If you live in or near the Queen City, you can visit the actual museum at 54 Webster Street in North Tonawanda. The phone number is (716) 213-0554.
