William Shakespeare’s Literary Location: Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire

New Place, the second largest home in Stratford, was sold to the greatest writer in the English language in 1597. He died there in 1616. Stratford was also the Bard’s birthplace. A later owner, annoyed at the number of people visiting the house, had it torn down. He was run out of town.

Honoré de Balzac’s Literary Location is 47, rue Raynouard in Paris. Balzac lived at this address from 1840-1847. He rented it under his housekeeper’s name, as he was trying to keep his creditors at bay. He edited La Comédie humaine and wrote three other novels here. Today the Maison de Balzac is one of three literary museums in Paris. It contains his writing desk, his cane and coffee pot.

Mary Wollstonecraft Sticker

Mary Wollstonecraft's literary location is The Polygon, St. Pancras, London. The author of A Vindication of the Rights of Women spent the last months before her death following the birth of her child Mary in 1797 living there with her husband, William Godwin. The building no longer exists, but a plaque marks the spot.

Godwin would later inadvertently ruin her reputation with his frank biography of her life, so that for a century afterwards her early feminist writing was ignored, completely overshadowed by her “scandalous” reputation.

Her daughter Mary would go on to write Frankenstein and marry the poet Shelley. Why not get stickers of both of these amazing mother and daughter writers? The stickers are illustrated by Isabella Bannerman and designed by Kanad Banerjee.
