What happened to the Stockholm? Lots. (Besides transporting my mom from Gothenburg to NYC in 1955, and ramming the Andrea Doria in 1956, sinking it off Nantucket with 52 lives lost). Today it's called Astoria, and it's "the world's second-oldest sea-going cruise vessel." USA Today has a terrific article about it here, written by Gene Sloan.
My mother included this in her scrapbook. I suspect she, and a lot of other people, needed it.

Dated Tuesday, May 3, 1955. My mother, Christa Paul, was traveling from Gothenburg, Sweden, to New York, to study in Connecticut. There she would meet my father. They got married in Stockholm a little over a year later. Below is the menu's cover. "SAL" is short for Svenska Amerika Linien (Swedish American Line). The dinner looks delicious. These keys are for one of these "white suitcases." I love the dynamic American Airlines logo and name in italic type. Mom tells me that the suitcases were lightweight, and some of the first designed for air travel, vs. ocean liners. She spent a lot of her own money on them, she told me, and her mother "thought she was wasting her money."
